Moreton in the Marsh

Moreton in the Marsh is located in the heart of the Cotswolds, at the head of the Evenlode valley. The town is easily accessible by car, bus or train. The Cotswold Line from Moreton in Marsh to Paddington in central London is little over a 1 hour journey.

Moretons' Tuesday Market in full swing. With plenty of bargains to be grabbedEvery Tuesday, one of the oldest open-air street markets dating back to 1227 is held in this attractive old town. Moreton (as known to the locals) stands at the junction of the A44 and the A429 Fosse Way, and was once an important stop on the coaching route between London and the West Midlands. Moretons’ high street is lined with handsome 17th and 18th century buildings including The White Hart, where Charles 1st took refuge during the Civil War and the Curfew Tower with its clock and bell dated 1633.

Moretons former airfield used to be the home of the Wellington Bomber. Now it is the home to the Fire Service College where senior fire officers from brigades all over the UK come to train. In Bourton Road, the Wellington Aviation Museum has a collection of Second World War aircraft paintings, prints and models and a detailed history of the Wellington Bomber.

Batsford Park has some beautiful picture postcard opportunitiesOne of the town’s popular amenities is Batsford Park, which offers a variety of attractions. There’s an arboretum set in 55 acres of typical Cotswold countryside. Also within the park is the Cotswold Falconry Centre, home to a large collection of falcons, hawks, owls, kites and vultures, which are flown at regular intervals of the day.

The small town provides a wide range of facilities and amenities including several pubs, inns, tea shops and restaurants, and Moreton is the perfect base from which to explore the Cotswolds
